Learn How To Guide Men Out of the Constraints of Traditional Masculinity and Into a More Relational Way of Living in Terry Real’s Men’s Intensive

For the first time ever, observe Terry’s LIVE interventions with 5 different men using his Relational Life Therapy method in this two-day workshop that will help strengthen your own work with men.

🗓  Tuesday, August 1–Wednesday, August 2, 2023 (10am-5pm ET both days).

“Men’s willingness to downplay weakness and pain is so great that it has been named as a factor in their shorter life span. The ten years of difference in longevity between men and women turns out to have little to do with genes. Men wait longer to acknowledge that they are sick, take longer to get help, and once they get treatment do not comply with it as well as women do.”

— Terry Real

Leading Men Into Intimacy Is Synonymous With Leading Them Out of Patriarchy

In our modern world many men are torn between two compelling versions of what it means to be a man: one version is traditional, older, unabashedly patriarchal, and centrally concerned with hierarchy and power; the other is modern, younger, ecological, and centrally concerned with mutuality and partnership. It’s difficult to imagine a contest with higher stakes.

And as therapists, helping men navigate these conflicting versions of masculinity can be difficult and overwhelming.

The good news is that we can rise to the challenge…

We can help men cultivate increased empathy and empower passive men to rise up and speak up. We can guide bullying men to take a breath and come down and help charming boy-men learn that it’s not always about them. The damaged, the destructive, the dependent—through therapy, immature men of all stripes can grow up.

And you’ll learn exactly how to use powerful RLT techniques to get through to even the most resistant men in this first-of-its-kind LIVE online two-day workshop with Terry Real.

Terry has been called “the most innovative voice in thinking about and treating men and their relationships in the world today,” and wrote the first book on male depression in the 1990s.

This is your chance to witness Terry conduct deep work with 5 men one at a time in a group setting. Modeled on his enormously popular Couples Experiential, after each intervention, the other men will share what came up for them as they watched.

The results are nothing short of remarkable as you watch each man transform and move toward the next stage of his development and the group’s connection build.

You’ll leave having witnessed transformations that previously might have seemed impossible. And as a result of the Q&A, you’ll understand how it was able to happen, which will help you strengthen your own work with men.

Whether you’re already working with men or are curious to explore this area, the Men’s Intensive is a truly immersive learning experience that will open you up to new approaches and show you how to put them into practice.

How Does the Men’s Intensive Work?

The Men’s Intensive takes place entirely online over Zoom.
There are two elements of the workshop:

1

Observation

This is where you will observe Terry working in-depth with each man one at a time (spending 60-90 minutes per person), then watch as he encourages the other men to engage and provide feedback to the man who has just done the work. During this portion of the workshop, you will remain on mute and not participate in the sessions.

2

Q&A
Each day will have dedicated time for Q&A with Terry (while the couples take a break) to discuss what happened in each session. This is where you can share your observations and ask Terry questions. He will be completely candid in his response, disclosing the RLT tools he used and explaining why he took certain stances.

You also receive these special bonuses…

Working with the Many Parts of Men
with Richard Scwartz

In this 1-hour interview, Terry and Richard Schwartz, founder of Internal Family Systems (IFS), discuss working with men and concepts of masculinity through both the RLT and IFS lenses.

From Boys to Men: Trauma and the Crisis of Masculinity with Carol Gilligan

A 1.5 hour conversation Terry and feminist psychologist Carol Gilligan, explore the influence of “traditional masculinity,” from how men learn to disconnect from their childhood wounds and emotions or behaviors that are deemed “weak” or “vulnerable.”

Male Aggression with Dr. James Gilligan

In this 1-hour interview, Terry is joined by Dr. James Gilligan, a legendary psychiatrist specialized in the causes and prevention of violent behavior, to discuss male aggression toward themselves, other men, and women.

What You’ll Learn

In this immersive two-day workshop, you will watch a master therapist interact and intervene LIVE with 5 men to strengthen your own work with men.

You will…

You’ll come away with a clear understanding of the powerful diagnostic tools and reconnecting techniques that will help you swiftly get to the heart of men’s issues, which you can use in your own work.

Who Is This For?

The Men’s Intensive is for clinicians already working with men or looking to add men’s work to their offering. This is also beneficial for practitioners who work with individuals and would like an insight into how RLT translates to individual therapy.

Whether you are familiar with RLT or are brand new to the model, the Men’s Experiential will help therapists, coaches, and mental health practitioners deepen their understanding and strengthen their skills in working with men.

Who Is This Not For?

This workshop isn’t suitable for non-mental health professionals. This is a learning and development workshop designed for clinicians working with men. If you’re a man looking for help with your own situation (or someone concerned about a man in your life), we recommend reading Terry’s book, I Don’t Want To Talk About It: The Secret Legacy of Male Depression.

What Your Colleagues Have To Say About Observing Terry’s Work

“Watching Terry do his “thing” and my actually writing down some of what he said to use with my own clients. I am amazed at how loving and direct he is at the same time. I have the direct part down as a coach but need to work more on the loving and soft tones. I really loved the interactions with the other participants. When you watch the replays you don’t get to see those or participate in them.”

– Nancy Pickard, master integrative life coach and bestselling author

“It was my first time joining the Couples Experiential. I am still impressed to see how a theory (the relational approach) enters the reality of couples and transforms it quietly. I also loved how this was embedded in a really smart teaching choreography, and for this especially the constant line and authentic mode of reflections within the dialogue between Terry and the students.”

— Dr. habil. Antje Schneider, scientist in the field of Intercultural Communication and Systemic Counselor

“Observing Terry was extraordinary, powerful – lives changed, including, perhaps, my own. The ‘debriefing” was essential. Amazing training!”

— Amy West, MFT, Detroit, MI

“I loved the format. Being able to watch Terry work with a variety of very troubled relationships was both educational and inspiring. Time to ask questions following the sessions was really helpful as well.”

— Mariah
