This workshop will challenge some of your beliefs about being a good man – but not to tear you down. To help you build something better.
Our partners want more. Our kids want more. Even our coworkers want more! We’re called to be sensitive but still strong. But that seems like a contradiction. We’re confused.
We don’t know what’s expected of us.
Maybe…
You work hard, but it never seems to be enough.
You feel cut off even though you long to feel connected to others.
You’re tired of living in constant competition with the guy next to you.
You feel inexplicably angry and easily snap at those closest to you.
Or you might even feel fine… but never anything else.
And if you’re tired of feeling like you’re just going through the motions, you’re not alone.
Like many men, you may wonder:
Discover the answer – and the roadmap to realize it – in this live workshop led by renowned therapist and expert in men’s issues, Terry Real.
The Truth Is:
This workshop will help you open your heart while retaining your strength to build richer, more fulfilling relationships.
Imagine feeling…
None of this is weakness. And it’s the foundations of a life that feels nourishing, connected, whole.
“ Men's willingness to downplay weakness and pain is so great that it has been named as a factor in their shorter life span. The ten years of difference in longevity between men and women turns out to have little to do with genes. Men wait longer to acknowledge that they are sick, take longer to get help, and once they get treatment do not comply with it as well as women do. ”
— Terry Real, I Don't Want to Talk About It
For generations, men were taught that invulnerability is the essence of masculinity. That the tougher you are, the more of a “real man” you become.
But under that old script, you were forced to deny half of your own humanity:
Hide your feelings.
Swallow your needs.
Stay stoic.
Be invulnerable.
But that is a recipe for loneliness. For failed relationships. For health issues.
And if we swing too far in the other direction – to always be soft and sensitive – we’re still denying half of ourselves.
What you need is to be whole: a strong, sexy, brilliant, big-hearted, loving man.
And you can be – you just need to learn how.
None of this is weakness. And it’s the foundations of a life that feels nourishing, connected, whole.
Gain the roadmap to meet the new demands of masculinity – and enjoy more meaningful relationships, greater happiness, and better health.
You’ll Learn:
This workshop will challenge some of your beliefs about being a good man – but not to tear you down. To help you build something better.

Men of all ages, backgrounds, and professions who want to step up and become models of a new masculinity – one that’s strong when needed, sensitive when needed. One that’s whole. Maybe you’re…
This workshop will help you take the first step toward a more fulfilling, whole way of living.
The old model of masculinity is hurting us and the people we love. It’s not working. But through this work, more and more people are discovering a new path toward the life they want to live.
“ Research is clear. As a human species, we are designed to be relational. It’s what keeps us healthy. Traditional masculinity knocks us out of connection. And a lot of men equate learning how to be more skillfully connected with weakness. They’re wrong. ”
— Terry Real
There will be space for Q&A if you wish to ask Terry a question on the content or advice on your specific challenges. However, you can also attend the workshop with your camera off and not say a word. All we ask is that you come with an open mind.
Known for his straight-talking, no-nonsense style, Terry uses warmth, humor, and compassion to ensure you feel understood, heard, and safe.
Expect deep, no-holds-barred communication but in an immensely non-judgemental environment where you are always supported.
A family therapist and expert in men’s issues, Terry Real is
the creator of Relational Life Therapy (RLT), a groundbreaking therapeutic approach that equips people with the essential relational skills to build and sustain authentic connections – to themselves, each other, and the planet.
The bestselling author of four books, Terry wrote the first ever book on male depression – I Don’t Want To Talk About It – in the 1990s. Terry’s most recent book is the New York Times bestseller, Us: Getting Past You and Me to Build a More Loving Relationship, which guides readers toward deeper intimacy and fulfillment.
Known as “the turnaround guy,” Terry is famous for his extraordinary ability to save couples on the brink of divorce. Through his esteemed training school, the Relational Life Institute, he has trained thousands of mental health practitioners in his RLT method to date.
Terry is committed to relational empowerment, helping everyone develop the skills needed for meaningful, lasting relationships.
And If You’re Still Thinking…
Because I’ve lived this.
I’ve learned a lot from my therapeutic training but I am also sharing from my own recovery. If you feel angry, lost, confused, numb, if you’re withdrawing from those who love you, I get it. I’ve been there. I self-medicated with workaholism. I drank too much. I didn’t like myself very much.
None of that is true for me now.
And let me tell you something, being like this is better than being like that. If you come from a dysfunctional culture, so do I. If you come from a dysfunctional family, so do I.
And if I can do it, so can you. Will let me show you how?
“ The dots’ are beginning to connect for me. Attending a workshop like this and listening closely to TR et al, made the connections between those dots stronger and clearer, and assisted me to validate my interpretation of all of my readings to date. My journey to understand my SELF and heal, to become a better person, husband, father etc has been a long road. I am cherishing every moment of this journey. ”
— Jim MacDougall (on Terry’s Unstuck workshop)
“ It is helpful to see Terry challenging people with compassion and empathy. Empathy without challenge does not produce change. Challenge without empathy chases people out of the room. ”
— Chris (on Terry’s Unstuck workshop)
“ I was an old fashioned male skeptic from a non-communicative family, whose marriage is in serious crisis. The workshop demonstrated how deep our crisis is, but with a tiny pinprick of hope… The larger question from the workshop is how / if our marriage can or should be saved. This workshop was extraordinary and worth watching every minute of three hours. You will cry throughout. ”
— Douglas (on Terry’s Unstuck workshop)

The course content is appropriate for Intermediate level clinicians.
Relational Life Therapy (RLT) is a transformative approach to couples work created by Terry Real that produces deep, profound, and lasting change in both individual partners and their relationships. Unlike traditional therapy models that separate character work from couples therapy, RLT integrates psychodynamic principles, family systems theory, feminism, trauma work, and addiction recovery into a cohesive framework designed to help people live authentically connected lives. This course introduces therapists to RLT’s distinctive methodology, which challenges conventional therapeutic practices by confronting difficult behaviors from the very first session, addressing both shame and grandiosity, taking sides when appropriate, and using judicious self-disclosure to model relationality.
Participants will learn how RLT differs from other modalities by doing deep character transformation and trauma work within the couples session itself, using the relationship as a crucible for accelerated healing.
This 3-hour foundational training covers the three core phases of RLT treatment: waking up the client through “joining through the truth,” conducting trauma work to understand and heal the adaptive child, and building relational skills that move clients beyond patriarchal patterns toward genuine intimacy. Participants will explore the tri-part model of the psyche—the wise adult, adaptive child, and wounded child—and learn to identify the recursive feedback loops (“the more the more”) that keep couples stuck. The course addresses how to work with both one-up (grandiose) and one-down (shame-based) positions, understanding that true love requires neither superiority nor inferiority but relational democracy. Through lecture, demonstration videos, and case examples, therapists will gain practical tools for helping clients shift from knee-jerk reactivity to relational mindfulness, transforming their capacity for authentic connection with themselves and others.
Identify the three phases of Relational Life Therapy (Waking Up the Client, Trauma Work, and Skill Building) and their sequential role in the therapeutic process.
Differentiate between the three parts of the psyche in RLT (Wise Adult, Wounded Child, and Adaptive Child) and their functions in client behavior.
Describe the technique of “Joining Through the Truth” and how it builds therapeutic alliance while confronting difficult behaviors.
Distinguish between modeling and reacting as the two ways the Adaptive Child is formed in response to childhood experiences.
Explain the therapeutic benefits of conducting trauma work with the partner present in the room rather than in individual therapy.
Assess the three preconditions (untreated psychiatric disorders, active addictions, and acting out behaviors) that must be addressed before proceeding with couples therapy.
Contrast individual empowerment versus relational empowerment when teaching clients to stand up for themselves within relationships.
Apply the biosphere metaphor to help couples understand their interdependence and move from a control-based model to ecological wisdom.
